India’s limited-over’s skipper MS Dhoni is known for his gift of the gab. He never minces words, which has got him into trouble a couple of times. With experience, Dhoni has learnt to use his communication skills to diffuse difficult situations and has come out with flying colors, nine out of 10 times. Cricwizz takes a look at some popular tongue-in-cheek comments by MS Dhoni.
Trust MS Dhoni to come up with comparisons that only he can conjure up. During the 2011-12 disastrous tour of Australia Down Under, Dhoni came up with this blinder when asked about moving to young players for ODI’s after the Test series.
“From Kishore Kumar, we have gone to Sean Paul.”
(For the record, Kishore Kumar is a popular Indian playback singer, while Sean Paul is a Jamaican rapper)
Another gem from MS Dhoni: On being asked about his growing popularity in Chennai as he led Chennai Super Kings for eight years in IPL.
‘When I am biking and stop at a red light, people flock to me and speak to me in Tamil.’’
MS Dhoni has the rare talent to steer clear of tough questions by coming up with humorous one-liners. One such gem of a quote when he was for asked suggestions, to keep the IPL clean, after the 2013 spot-fixing scandal….
“We will try the laundry, that’s good, will keep us clean”
MS Dhoni has the knack of making light of difficult situations and looking at the positives of it. Dhoni’s superb quote when asked on another Indian tail’s failure following a batting collapse.
“Now even PETA has said you can’t cosmetically remove the tail”
Dhoni has won everything from World T20, 50-overs World Cup to Champions Trophy. When asked whether anything is left to win, he came up with this great quote.
“I don’t mind repeating everything”
Dhoni knows best how to play down a controversy. This is what he came up with after a reported dressing room rift between Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan.
“The person who reported that story should work in Hollywood for Warner Brothers.”
Dhoni has been the most loved and even the most hated cricketer in India. But it does not make a difference to Dhoni who came up with such an awesome one-liner:
“I have three dogs at home. Even after losing a series or winning a series, they treat me the same way.”
Whar are Dhoni’s feelings on Irfan Pathan’s indifferent cricketing season.
“I do not doubt you, but you are gaining a reputation for being fit during the IPL and not during the Ranji Trophy. If you get fit, I need you in England, but you have to play first-class matches before that.”
Dhoni on his relationship rumours before marriage.
“You (media) change my girlfriends every two days. Please let one continue for some time.”
Ajantha Mendis destroyed India in the Asia Cup final in 2008 with a six-for. How will India handle Mendis in the next bilateral series? One that was too easy for Dhoni to answer. He replied,
I’ll just ask Mahela (Jayawardene) if he will lend Mendis for a couple of practice sessions.”
